New videos

A couple of weeks ago we were sitting around having a nice relaxing Sunday after church. I'd made chili and we were working our way through laundry and chores... we caught these few little snipits of our "normal" life...

37

Grace and I have made it to 37 weeks, as of Sunday! I haven't gotten much sleep at all the last three weeks through the regular ol' aches and pains and then... starting about a week ago... continuous contractions.

The first time I noticed about 5 in an hour we went into OB receiving (at 34 weeks, 6 days) and I was told I was still 2cm... whew! So they sent me home and told me to stay off my feet as much as possible and flood myself with fluids- as, apparently- dehydration is the #1 cause of preterm labor... good to know!

I was told to wait to come in until the contractions are 5-6 minutes apart.

Well, let me tell you, after a week I stopped paying attention... dangerous, I know... So Monday Rudy noticed I was having them pretty frequently so I stopped and paid attention again... 2-3 minutes apart. I was scared that I'd waited too long... again...

The nurse said my blood pressure was elevated, of course she took it in the middle of a contraction, so they kept me on monitors and ran lots of tests to make sure I wasn't developing preecclampsia. During contractions I rocketed to 150/100, but in between I was at my (more) normal 100/60. We were at 3, almost 4, cm but not progressing anymore- so I was sent home again.

I took Tuesday off for my health- to try and sleep with the help of Benadryl for a couple of hours- but went back to work Wednesday. Thursday I was at work when I got a call from the daycare... Mr. Daniel had a "103" fever. So I had to run, pick him up, go back to the hospital for my doctor's appt (4 almost 5cm and ready to go any minute according to Doc) and then make it up to North clinic so Daniel could be seen.

He was wheezing a little, but didn't have THAT high of a fever... and no- I didn't give tylenol... He got a breathing treatment and his ears looked at. The ears were good. The breathing treatment didn't help- which Dr. Brooks said was good because it meant it was probably bronchialitis (yeah yeah yeah- I probably spelled it wrong) and not something worse or the start of asthma.

So we stayed home Friday. Today all we've done is grocery shopping... still trying to take it easy- at least until Sunday... I'm gonna have a TERM baby... I'm determined to return those preemie things I bought "just in case"!

Movin' on up!

Daniel will be moving to the 'big boy' class the Monday after Thanksgiving! I don't know his new teacher's name yet- but the other morning he had to stay over there because his teacher was running late and he was VERY excited to see some of his "older" friends that had already moved to the toddler room!!

His girlfriend was excited too... he's such a ladies' man!

Today's News

Daniel won the costume contest at the Halloween party! He got a cup full of candy and a gift certificate to Outback... 'cause you know he loves his steak!

I officially stink at being pregnant. I went into my 34 week checkup this morning and all I said was that I'm tired. Just... tired, all the time (like as in- check my iron I feel anemic). So Doc decides to do an exam and what does he find??

2 cm dialated and 50% ephased. Grace is head down and he knows this because he can FEEL her head.

The good news?
1. Some women walk around dialated for up to 3 weeks.
2. I lost 2 pounds in the last week- ok... Doc didn't think this was good- but lets face it... it's not like I'm starving myself!
3. My blood pressure is getting closer to being normal for me- 102/62- yay!
4. Group B Strep negative. He said if I make it to 37 weeks he'll recheck because a small percentage of women convert from negative to positive... but he didn't sound very hopeful that I'd get there... He kept saying, "With your history...."

So that's it... that's my news... I get to go the next few weeks wondering what I could have done to go longer...

1. I could have sat on my butt more- Not an option... it's wide enough...
2. I could have taken the hormone shots daily- Not an option (financially at $350/week)
3. I could have purposely given myself gestational diabetes to get a bigger baby... nah- I tried hard enough... (just kidding!)

Halloween Party

The little "bee" is Daniel's friend Caroline, who thought he was a puppy at the party!

Rudy cheated! He went as a Brown's fan!

(above) Brad and Maggie came "together" in their costume... "She might have gotten the liver- but I have my hand up her shirt" I think is what the shirt says....

Update

Allison said she didn't buy her family on ebay... it was Amazon.com :-P According to her blog she's taking the LSAT's- Allison will make a great lawyer... the girl can put anyone (including me on my bad days) in their place!

Rudy's brother Richie has accepted a position with a bank. We think he'll really enjoy returning to "regular" hours and working in this new field!

This is my cousin Bethany's little girl- so cute! Little bit of a family resemblance, huh?

Daniel is having surgery next Thursday to get tubes in both ears. Dr. Carron is doing the surgery and takes children in order of age... so we'll probably be the first in and first out.

IF you've got the guts this is a video of exactly what will be done

Daniel's Baby Day Need to Knows

1. I'm trying to get a bag together to put with mine... we're calling it the Daniel's Baby Day bag. I'm putting in some of his favorite (nonperishable) foods and snacks, a spare sippy cup, formula with instructions, diapers, wipes, and a couple changes of clothes. Oh! And Daddy's cell phone number... Call him if anything comes up. I'd rather labor alone than worry that someone is having to take care of a grouchy little man.

2. Need to know lullabyes... Whoever takes care of Daniel on "Baby Day"- the first one is an absolute must know, he'll probably be ok if you only know that one. I'll try to get them recorded somehow so that whoever it is can stick the CD in and not worry about learning our songs... but just in case-

Something Beautiful
(My mom used to sing this, and it really is the only thing that calmes the savage beast!)

Something beautiful
Something good
All my confusion
He understood
All I had to offer him
Was broken at sunstrike
But he made
Something beautiful of my life

All through the night (Most people probably know the melody...)

Hush my child let sleep surround thee
All through the night
Guardian angels God will lend thee
All through the night
Soft the weary hours are creeping
Hill and dale in slumber sleeping
I my loving vigil keeping
All through the night

Jesus loves me (Very slow- to put him to sleep)

Jesus love me, this I know
For the bible tells me so
Little ones to him belong
They are weak, but he is strong
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
The bible tells me so

Edelweiss (You caught me- I'm already addicting my child to the Sound of Music)

Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white, clean and bright
You look happy to meet me
Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

Daddy's song
(Very few people know this- my Dad wrote it and sang it to me... I always wish I had a recording of him with the guitar, even when I'm singing it! Maybe someday)

Hush my baby close your weary eyes
Don't you worry, I'm right here by your side
Close your eyes and dream of a thousand things
Dream of lollipops and popsicles and chocolate galore
A tea party with royalty a white unicorn
A place where you can go and you can be anything
A prince, a princess, a king, or a queen
Just dream, dream and sleep

Toile, not tulle silly...
